ROD PARKER is Director of the School of Art at Louisiana State University (LSU), a position he has held since 2008. Joining the graphic design faculty in 1995, in 1998 he collaborated with his colleagues in establishing the Graphic Design Student Office (GDSO), a student-run design He is a member of the founding group of LSU’s DMAE (Digital Media Arts and Engineering) initiative, and as Director of the School of Art has helped establish the school’s digital art program.
A postgraduate position at the University of Texas in Austin led him to design practice in scholarly publishing at UT Press and magazine and book design with Texas Monthly. After returning to his native London, Professor Parker spent four years working in corporate identity design and implementation for companies in the U.K. and Europe before coming to Louisiana to spend a year working at LSU Press in Baton Rouge. In 1981, he began teaching as an instructor in the School of Art at LSU, and in 1984, he founded a Baton Rouge–based design firm.
Born in London, England, and raised in South Wales, Professor Parker studied typography and bookbinding at the London College of Printing, now the University of the Arts, London.
