Jory Hancock

Jory Hancock currently serves as Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Director of the School of Dance at the University of Arizona, where he also serves as Director of the UA Dance Ensemble. He previously was a member of the dance faculty at Indiana University.

In his 25-year career as a professional ballet dancer, Dean Hancock performed with Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Houston Ballet, and as a principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet. He performed principal roles in Swan Lake, Cinderella, and other classics, as well as in the Balanchine repertoire including Serenade, Concerto Barocco, and The Four Temperaments. He created the title role in the world premiere of James Clouser’s Caliban. In addition to his stage performances, Dean Hancock is featured in five documentary specials made for PBS.

Dean Hancock is the recipient of honors that include a Medallion of Merit from the National Society of Arts and Letters.

Dean Hancock trained with the Harkness Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. He received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Indiana University.

Dean Hancock has served NASD as a Visiting Evaluator, Member of the Commission on Accreditation, Member of the Board of Directors, and as Vice President.
